20 soldiers arraigned for gun-running, murder in Maiduguri

Twenty soldiers comprising four officers and sixteen men of the Nigerian Army have been arraigned before a court martial in Maiduguri, Borno state over offences bordering on gun-running and murder during their operation in the state.

The court martial to try them was inaugurated today by the commander in charge of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier Victor Ezudwu.  He warned the president of the court and its members against unnecessary adjournments, while seeing to it that justice is done.

Most of the soldiers to be tried have been accused of stealing and selling arms while some others are suspected of committing murder and human rights abuses.
