Foreign tourists who were relaxing on the El Mouradi Palm Marina near the hotel were first targeted and killed before gunmen stormed the nearby hotel which is in a quiet remote beach.
Police in Tunisia is currently engaging the gunmen in a fierce gun battle. Just one gunman has so far been killed. Many bodies are said to be lying on the beach. Most of the people killed are believed to be foreigners as the hotel is said to be popular amongst European holiday makers.
This morning's attack follows a similar attack in March, when three terrorists attacked the Bardo National Museum in the Tunisian capital city of Tunis, and took hostages. Twenty-one people, mostly European tourists, were killed at the scene while an additional victim died ten days later. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, the deadliest involving foreigners in Tunisia since a 2002 suicide bombing on the island of Djerba.
