Another Nigerian has been felled by the bullets of a police
officer during a peaceful protest.
The Nigeria Police is in for another tough time
after one of its men shot dead one woman identified as Bolatito
Balogun, during a peaceful protest embarked upon by some women
in the Oro-Ago community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara
State.
According to reports, the ugly incident happened when a police team
sent from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, to
investigate causes of the incessant clashes between indigenes of the
community and Fulani herdsmen, popularly called the Bororos,
which has led to loss of lives and property in the area.
A community leader, Richard Olushola, said that when
the fully armed police team got to the community, they started shooting
into the air and indiscriminately arresting community members, an
action which led the women to embark on a peaceful march to protest the
arrest of their men.
But this peace march turned bloody when the police fired shots at the
women, killing Balogun on the spot while injuring many
others.
